A long time ago when the Google+ photography community just formed, I started taking part of The All Time Scavenger Hunt. There have been 29 rounds already and I might have taken part of 26 or 27 of them. The ones that have registered for it receive a list with 10 words and we have to photograph these words in any way we perceive them! A group of judges select the winners for each word and finally the overall winner. It is such fun and an excellent exercise for our muse! The hunt community is fabulous and very interactive. The learning curve for all photographer’s levels is brilliant. A session of the community is based on behind the scenes where all the process to reach the final result is explained.
This last round, there was an interesting twist! We coudn’t post process any image. It had to be SOOC. For someone like me that do lots of composites, this came as a good surprise. All my thoughts of trying to come with superb ideas had a pause. However, barely I new at the start that this would force me to use other areas of my brain.
Line of thoughts for the Scavenger hunt.
My first thought was of macros, creating beautiful soft images. This thought didn’t last for long. I am already used with macros and I wouldn’t be working hard on my brain. Then it came the idea of creating a story. I wanted to work on my imagination. The strong point would be story telling that is something that I love, no matter if the end result was a piece of art or just a simple photo. The collection of photos had to be telling a story. Not a story for each image. I persevered with this.
Another thought was that I would make use of ‘all from scratch’. No light, no flash, no nothing. Props would have to be the simple ones that I would find at home. I wanted to concentrate on the story only! I would be taking part of the scavenger hunt as a hunter from the past, as a neanderthal ! 😉
Results and story of my 29th round of the scavenger hunt.
Bellow are the results. As the viewers can notice, the story is centred around a couple. And by the look of it the woman was immensely spoiled while the man was the hard worker to say the least. Could you imagine how this story ended up? Have a look then! And if you can guess the words for each well done to you!!! 😉
I really enjoyed this round and I would never have imagined that I would be going back to basics. It really gave me the opportunity to aim for my story and forget a bit of the pure beauty of an image.
If you like photography and you are up for a challenge, you should take part of the Scavenger Hunt. It’s been a wonderful journey since I’ve joined!
